What BRMC gets up to

Spring Hut Meet, April 2026, Philip
Friday The weekend got off to an early start, with Jolanta and Trevor exploring the hills around Nantmor and Beddgelert. Meanwhile, I tackled an impressive 75 km road ride, cycling around the perimeter of Yr Wyddfa. By the end of the day, the wind was already beginning to build, setting the tone for what would become a blustery and decidedly Baltic Saturday. Saturday Trevor, Jolanta and I headed onto the Nantlle Ridge to visit the fine peaks of Trum y Ddysgl and Mynydd Tal

Spring Hut Meet, April 2026, Sam
Day 1: Cneifion Arete and Y Gribin Scramble The weekend promised to give us an opportunity to take in more of what Snowdonia has to offer, and we certainly gave it a go by attacking the Cneifion Arete. The Cneifion Arete is a classic, highly popular Grade 3 scramble in Snowdonia's Glyderau range (North Wales), offering a 120-meter, alpine-style ridge climb. It features a challenging, steep "Difficult" (Diff) rock climbing start, followed by exposed, airy, and easier scramblin

Y Gribben, Glyder Fawr, Y Garn, January 2026, Phil
'We Were Soldiers' Not only did Sam and Pete head up for a 'there and back' on Friday, our Vice Chair, Phil, headed up to Llanberis and managed to get one of the last of the parking spaces available to get a training day in for his forthcoming Scotland trip, so he was loaded up with ropes and a rack. Once he'd conquered the above, he headed off the ridge to Llyn Idwal. Another fab day out.

Snowdon Horseshoe, January 2026, Sam
Late Friday afternoon, Pete and I checked the hut was available and took off to Tremadog to see if we could get out playing in the snow. We were not let down, deciding to do the Snowdon Horseshoe we were rewarded with astonishing weather, views and snow.

New Year Hut Meet, January 2026, Sarah
North Wales gave us some fantastic winter conditions for this meet. Lots of snow up top and rather chilly in the gusts. Friday saw some of the earlier arrivals exploring Cnicht. I had a little swim in Llyn Dinas (whist Rob supported on the side looking thoroughly miserable in the horizontal sleet that arrived). We ended the day with fish and chips. Saturday saw us having an epic adventure with a long circular walk / scramble up Moel Siabod. Lots of snow covered bogs, unfortun

Malvern, December 2025, Sarah
Another fabulous Malvern Day Walk with a lot of us setting off from Wyche Cutting, heading south, up and over British Camp. Unfortunately the mist enveloped us throughout the day, so we didn't see the view, but that didn't stop the fun. Lovely company, finally putting faces to names of newer members.

Maintenance, November 2025
The maintenance weekend saw Ed doing a day trip to check the back of the hut, clear the guttering and paint the lounge ceiling - together with imparting knowledge and suggestions for 2026. Helen did a deep clean of the kitchen - I think we've found ourselves a new cleaner! Dave finished the new racking in the drying room - yes, the awesome drying room mentioned in the Oktoberfest 2025 write up. I started on painting all the woodwork, including re-marking the stairs up to the

Bredon Hill Walk, November 2025, Sarah
Always a popular walk, and again on a glorious Autumn day. 13km was covered from Elmley Castle through fields and woodland, with some stunning views across to the Malvern Hills. We finished with a cuppa / pint at the Community Run Pub. Thank you to all who attended.

Oktoberfest, 2025
With most arriving on the Friday night, one group summited Snowdon on the Saturday, taking the Snowdon Rangers up and Ruyd Dhu down. Cracking day with amazing autumnal views. The other group went walkabout around the Moelwyns - testing their waterproofs to their max. capacity. Aren't we glad the hut has an amazing drying room! Saturday evening was an excellent communal meal and Sunday took us all to a local temperate rainforest, near the Moelwyns - was so lovely for all of us

Autumn Hut Meet, September 2025
Unfortunately, due to the storm, the meet was cancelled...apart from two of us who braved the weather to go and do some urgent maintenance. No photos were taken that weekend due to the weather and work needed, so instead why not advertise the local brewery...head to The Australia if you'd like to try Purple Moose.

Quick Weekend Trip, June 2025, Rob
Solo climbing on Little Tryfan on the Friday, then over to Pen Yr Ole Wen / Craig Lloer on the Saturday - melting most of the way up in the heat and then spending 20 minutes hiding from the rain in a group shelter before nearly getting blown away whilst climbing before full summer conditions again for the walk down - typical Welsh Summer conditions!

Joint May Bank Holiday Meet, 2025
Rugby Mountaineering Club made the most of the weather by arriving on the Friday and doing some climbing, climbing at the Moelwyns on the Saturday, Moel-y-Gest on the Sunday and Tremadog on the Monday in the main. Some had worn themselves out by then so went walking instead. A couple of us from BRMC joined the party on the Saturday evening, climbed at Tremadog on the Sunday and Aberglaslyn on the Monday. Oh to have been able to stay on for a few more days with the glorious we

Climbathon, March 2025
One of our local walls put on a 'climbathon' to raise money for the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, and members who don't usually climb at the wall came out of the woodwork to support the event. It made for focus and determination, as each climb earned points, so not too much time for chatting. The categories were group winners and individual winners, and our Meets / New Members committee member came 2nd in the individual. Ever commited to the cause, huge contrats Rob!

This has become an annual event, and we are never let down. Very good attendance from not only current members, but potential new members, so a great day had by all. 12 miles was covered and 953m of ascent.

Hut Maintenance Meet, March 2025
A very select few attended and were blessed with great weather and blue skies on the Saturday whilst starting the upgrade on the drying room, deep cleaning the kitchen and attending to the gardening. A hard days' work was rewarded by a meal out. Sunday morning started with an early morning swim for the brave one who is now our Secretary for 2025, a clean down of the hut before climbing and walking on our way back home. Always a good meet and always great to put something back
